The dream of a farmhouse in Tuscany: rustic outside, immersed among the olive trees of a renowned hill, an old 19th‑century rustic house embodies the desire to escape the city.
In the common imagination, the buen retiro in a rustic Tuscan setting remains one of the main romantic fantasies. But what many label as unreachable for others can be feasible. This living space, located among the hills north of Lucca, is a vivid example.
The property of about 1 hectare includes two buildings: the main building of 180 sqm dating from 1850, which was the farmhouse of the adjacent villa, a square body with internal measurements of about 180 sqm, and an independent annex of 92 sqm.
What was a 180 sqm farmhouse, developed over two floors, underwent an external conservation restoration and internal modernization. To preserve the original character of the building, small changes were introduced such as the plaster color, corresponding to the openings
The stone façade with exposed walls, the exposed beams, maintained, as well as the window shutters, are some pre-existing elements that make us feel inside a historic complex.
On the ground floor we find a bright and panoramic living area with a fireplace, dining room with attached kitchen, and a large bathroom. On the upper floor, 4 rooms with view and a bathroom for the sleeping area.
On the lower but offset floor, still with direct access to the garden, we find two rooms used as a tavern, retaining its original materials.
The house is surrounded by olive trees and ancient plants; in the garden there is a whirlpool bath for 6 people, but the property also has space to create a pool.
On the first floor the minimal style of the dwelling continues, characterized by the combination of few and simple materials and finishes: terracotta flooring, some well-selected wooden elements, and the discreet color of the walls.
From the windows, the view over the plain of Lucca extends from Montecarlo hill, to the Pisane mountains and the Tyrrhenian Sea, which on clear days lets us glimpse Corsica.
